SwingTones Big Band

Information panel

The band consists of experienced musicians with many years of training and live performances. Many of them have served in some of the top military bands in the country, several of which had very proficient dance bands as an offshoot of the basic military band.

Whilst most of the band members grew up with the music of the Big Bands, it's pleasing to see some younger players joining us and showing the same love for, and interest in, the sheer excitement of Big Band music.

The music covers both instrumental and vocal arrangements all of which have been arranged specifically for a big band. In many cases we have managed to secure either direct transcriptions of the charts used by the original recording artistes or, in some cases, the original arrangements. When it comes to the famous Glenn Miller numbers such as Moonlight Serenade, In The Mood, American Patrol etc., there is just no replacement for the original arrangements.

The vocal charts are mostly transcriptions and are so well done you will think that they are the original arrangements. Whenever one of the band members gets across to London, New York or Chicago you can be sure they will return with some more arrangements from the specialist publishing houses still able to source such valuable material.

For the dancers, there is just nothing like a big band to provide the music for dancing. We play all the standard Ballroom dances and most of the Latin American dances. We'll even throw in some Rock and Roll for good measure.

The list below is just some of the numbers in our library of over 300 arrangements.
